Recientemente
una buena amiga, sin tener conocimiento se envolvió en una relación abusiva que
casi le cuesta su vida y la de sus familiares. Ella me ha pedido que comparta
el siguiente documento con mi comunidad con la intención de educar. No sé cuál
es la fuente de este escrito, por lo que pido disculpas por no citar la misma.
Hasta entonces, Empodera tu Grandeza.

Packing tape, boxes, cleaning supplies and house hunting… How many times have you move in your life? I have moved around 17 times in my entire
life and some of those moves came as being part of a military family. Military families move an average of once
every three years, but this rate can double according to the active duty ´s job.
This leads to a gypsy lifestyle, where military Families become expert at all
things mobile.
It is believe that "The military Family that travels
best is the one that travels light." The thing is to decide what travel
with you and what to leave in the hands of the packers and movers, taking in
consideration that there is a high risk of things getting broken, lost and
sometimes stolen. Being just a human, of
course it’s painful to leave behind the things that are of value to you. In the case of our family, when we move from
New Mexico to Omaha –NE, we had some packers that box our family pictures with our
“empty” water fountain. Unfortunately,
the water fountain’s baskets still had water inside and as a result, we lost
all our family pictures as the pictures got completely wet.
After so many moving experiences, I have learned a 3 step
system that makes this process easy:
First step is making an inventory; moving is the best time
to sprint clean. I will throw away
things that are broken and donate the things that are not being use anymore.
Second Step: I organize
each room so that packers box and mark what belong to each room in the respective
containers.
Third Step: It is to let
go and Let God; be grateful for the people that you met and be open to the new
experiences.
Finally; allow me to share with you my one secret to keep my
family grounded while we travel all over the world.
Before I give you the secret, I have to mention that loosing
material stuff is not even close to leave behind family and friends. Undoubtedly, it would be better to live
without attachments to avoid any suffering, but can we really live without any
attachments, belonging to nobody and nowhere? Isn't it true that we all like to call a place
home?
ØFor our
family, how can we bring home if we are always moving? Shhhh!!! Here is the
secret, “Home is where our boat is. This is one of the first things I hang in
the new place and without any doubt; we read it regularly and live by it!
As my son stated in one of his English papers; “My mom once
told me a simple story. She said, “Home is like a boat, it goes around places
never staying in one place forever, but it doesn't matter where it goes as long
as on that boat, home and family live. I have journeyed all around the country from
the West to East Coast, but I always remember that home is where the boat is”.
Fellow toastmasters and guests, I encourage you to pack in
your life boat what is valuable to you –love it and live by it- and as you
navigate through life, it doesn't matter where you are, you will be home because
home is where our boat is.
Hasta entonces, Empodera tu Grandeza
