How to get up in one easy step, whenever you fail
Everybody
fails sometimes. Whether you fail small
or big, it’s still a failure. Even
though there are different results and lessons, we are all offered the same
class called “failing 101”. If you think you can’t ever fail, then you have
failed to live!
Let me share with you my story of how I
failed and recovered. Ever since I can remember, I have been climbing up the
ladder, stepping up, driving myself to higher standards, making sure that I get
from life what life did not give me.
·
Where you ever fired?
·
How did you feel?
I stayed home for many
days not knowing what to do. Two weeks later, I went to my bedroom, grabbed my
prayer box and knelt on the floor right next to my bed. I cried for hours. My
heart was filled with guilt, anger, doubts and resentment. I
don’t know how long I laid there until I finally lifted my right hand up to the
ceiling and I said “what do you want from me?”
I dropped my hand to my heart and said, show me!
I started singing “Make an instrument of
your peace”. It’s a prayer of Saint
Francis of Assisi that I used to sing during my childhood when I got scared. “Donde
haya odio, ponga yo el amor, donde haya ofensa, ponga yo el perdón”, which
means “Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon.
I
tried to sing it but I had forgotten the lyrics. I opened my prayer box and
reached for my catechism book that has the song. Right there, on page #47 I found a piece of
paper that I have written back in May 9, 1988 that read like this “Dear God that gave me life, help me to not
fall in the darkness and strengthen my faith when in doubt. Take me away from any
bad feelings,
ambitions and power. Help me to forgive. Help me
to be patient when I don’t get the things I want. Lord, fill my heart with love, humility and kindness.
Everything
you give me, make it be for the good of people” This was written at a time when
I worked really hard for something that I achieve. Right at that moment I realized
I climbed the wrong mountain.
I failed because not being true to myself; I
had forgotten my mission, values and purpose. This failure was the defining moment for
me to become a Life and Career Coach. I guide others to achieve their life
and career goals through inspiration.
·
The quickest way to fail is to forget that
you are human.
This
brings me back to the title of my speech, How to get up in one easy step
whenever you fail. The answer is simple -- Be true to yourself, and
you can always recover from failure.
Later on, I will share with you how this
so called failure was just the gate door to www.lifecoachlatino.com,
the place where I need to be to serve my life purpose. Today, I leave you with
this question to ponder. Who would you be if you never knew failure?
Hasta entonces, Empodera tu Grandeza
